Side Effects of Detoxing

Detoxification is a process that puts your body through a state of fasting. You may experience some of these telltale side effects. Remember, the Lemonade Cleanse is not for individuals who give up easily. You must be determined to complete 10 days of liquid fasting to achieve excellent results.

The side effects listed below are usually benign signs that your body is purging nasty toxins in various ways. They will give you an idea of what to expect. For a full list of side effects and health risks, please refer to My Book.

Side Effects usually coincide with particular stages of detoxification. To learn about these stages, visit the Stages of Detox page.

Weakness: Weakness and tired muscles will occur the first few days of cleansing, as your body adjusts to the fast. It is important to listen to your body and take it easy. Do not engage in rigorous exercise, especially if you feel dizzy.

Fatigue: Like weakness, fatigue will be present especially during the first few days of cleansing. Because of the possibility of fatigue, it is wise to begin your cleanse on a weekend so that you can rest as your body adjusts to the fast.

Bad Breath: Bad breath is a very common side effect during the lemonade cleanse. It is due to bacteria build up in the mouth. This is a sign of detoxification. Simply use mouthwash and brush your teeth often.

Mouth Sores: Mouth sores can occur because of the build up of bacteria OR because of the acidity of the lemon juice in the lemonade. Drink from a straw to avoid contact with the sores.

Coated Tongue: Your tongue will become coated with a white film of bacteria during cleansing. It is simply the toxins exiting your body. If you want a thorough cleanse, wait until the coating disappears from your tongue to stop lemonade cleansing.

Mucus: Yellowish mucus will accumulate in your nose and throat at various points during your cleanse. This does not mean that you are sick. It is simply your lungs and lymphatic system breaking up toxins that have accumulated, and pushing them out of your body.

Oily Skin: At first, the Lemonade Cleanse will force toxins out of your skin in the form of oils. You may experience some pimples or even a boil. Don’t worry. By day 10, the toxins will be eliminated and your skin will glow.

Nausea: Nausea may occur during the first few days of cleansing. You may also feel queasy when you do the Salt Water Flush (SWF).

Some of these side effects can be annoying and uncomfortable, but remember the excellent benefits you are receiving from the Lemonade Cleanse. Review the Healthy Benefits page anytime you need a burst of determination.
